Zlatne gorice

The Zlatne gorice (Golden Vineyard) excursion site is located on a hill above Varaždin.

There are 140 seating places in 4 separated parlours and a panoramic terrace, and 130 more on the garden terrace, they offer their own wines, and there is a bus parking lot.

Here, in the vineyards of Kneginec (in the 15th century known as Banjšćina, Dugi vrh, Mali vrh, Hališće, Speski vrh..), the citizens of Varaždin and the town government had their vineyards and wine cellars, and later around 10 villas were built. In the early 18th century there were 330 inhabitants here, the town vassals called „gornjaci“, who cultivated vineyards and lived in purposely built houses with cellars full of barrels and wine presses. The Varaždin township sold the wine from its vineyards.

Once the house of the noble Baron Kussy, today it is home to Zlatne Gorice (Golden Vineyards) inn and restaurant. It is surrounded by its own vineyards, and you can sample their wines, as tradition demands, in their wine cellar, where you will also be served other specialties, such as homemade cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil.

You can also take an enjoyable walk around the estate along a well-maintained wine trail with 12 stops surrounded by vineyards, or simply take a short stroll through an interesting labyrinth... This is the perfect place to enjoy the flavours of meals served for centuries at the rich feasts of Varaždin’s gentry and the manors of the local nobility.
