Trakošćan -Pearl of Hrvatsko Zagorje
If you feel like visiting preserved and untouched natural beauty, visit the Bednja region located in the north-western part of Hravtsko zagorje, at the foot of the mountains Ivanščica, Strahinščica, Maceljska and Ravna gora.
Vineyards, forests, meadows, orchards and green hills make the region picturesque. The region is also unique for the specific dialect which is spoken here. Another advantage is rich cultural tradition and hospitable hosts.

If you come to Bednja, you certainly must visit the pearl of Hrvatsko zagorje- the Trakošćan castle.
In the early 1800s, Juraj Draπković restored the castle and turned it into a stately home which is now kept as an example of an unspoilt romantic park and aristocratic residence. Particularly worth seeing are the knights' and the hunt-rooms, the music-salon, the painter Julijana Erdoedy’s studio, the armoury collection with pieces from the 15th to the 19th Century, and—made especially for the restoration—the furnishings, now placed alongside examples from earlier centuries.

Trakošćan has much to offer the visitor. The wind at Ravna Gora attracts parachute gliders, while anyone who fancies something more demanding can try their hand at rock-climbing on Ravna Gora. There are 150 km. of way-marked tracks for rambling and almost 550 km of cycle-paths. The Diana Hunting Grounds and hunters' lodge should more than satisfy anyone keen to shoot wild boar, deer, pheasant and hare, while the lake below Trakošćan castle will delight any angler. The entire area is one of the least-spoilt habitats in Croatia where, to give just one example, some thirty species of orchid thrive. Trakošćan is near the main road connecting Zagreb, Maribor and Vienna, approximately 70 km. from Zagreb and about 40 km. from Varaždin, and one of the most popular tourist-spots in Croatia.
