Varaždinske Toplice - Health Resort
Varaždinske Toplice, in Hrvatsko Zagorje, is situated near the small River Bednja and surrounded by undulating hills with rolling meadows, vineyards, orchards and forest.

The town grew up around the warm spring here, which gave it its name. Ever since Roman times (when it was called Aquae Iasae) it has been a spa for the elite and today
has something of a "riviera" feel to it.

VaraždinskeToplice, the oldest thermal spa in Croatia, is still in use after 400 years and retains much of the original Roman complex.

The water springs from almost 1,800 metres below and surfaces at a temperature of 58 degrees; as it has done for 20,000 years.

The modern spa did not really take off until the late 1600’s when Dr.Ivan Krstitelj Lalangue of Luxemburg worked nearby in Varaždin, but spa-tourism did not begin until the introduction of medical supervision in 1819 when a full-time physician was appointed, and permanent facilities were built, many still operating today. By the early 20th century, Varaždinske Toplice was one of the finest Central European watering-places. Today, its popular Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation offers a wide variety of therapy and recreation.

Local events include the traditional Valentine's Day, Toplice Summer, St. Anna's Day Ball, Lovrečevo, Kukuljević's Days, the Days of Baroque Cuisine, Gold Nympha, Roman's games, St. Martin's Day, and New Year's Eve.
