„Šanjek“ restaurant

„Šanjek“ restaurant

„Šanjek i sinovi“ (Šanjek and sons) is one of the oldest trades in Varaždin and the Varaždin county.

Our activities: the production of sausages from horse and foal meat, the selling of fresh horse and foal meat, and gastronomy.
The history of this trade goes back to 1948, when the butcher Zvonimir Šanjek opened the first private horse meat butcher's shop in the area of the former Yugloslavia. It soon became known for their products from horse and foal meat. That same year he opened a shop on Liberty Square, in the mere town center, that still exists. His son Zvonko continued his work, modernised and expanded the production and selling in the Optujska Street and opened a restaurant- „Šanjek“ diner in 53 Braće Radića Street. The members of the third generation of the Šanjek family, His sons Ronald and Nikica, joined the continuance of the family tradition.
How a small family trade became recognizeable throughout Croatia and wider, can be recognized in a years-long tradition, continuous quality and a team of people that are always at your service and contribute to this happy and relaxed atmosphere.
